OECD Economic Survey of Norway
The OECD looks at the challenges facing Norway’s booming economyin a survey to be publishedon Tuesday 30 January 2007. These include reducing the risk of overheating, guarding against the less welcome impacts of oil wealth, promoting innovation and reforming the pension and benefit systems.
The survey will be available to journalists in English on the OECD's password-protected website at 10.00 a.m. Paris time (09.00 GMT) for immediate release.
A Policy Brief with the main conclusions will be freely accessible in pdf format (in English and French) on the OECD’s web siteatwww.oecd.org/eco/surveys/norway. You are invited to include this internet link in reports on the survey.
A news conference on the survey’s findings will take place at 10.00 a.m. the same day at the Norwegian Ministry of Finance, Akersgata 40, Oslo.Participants will include Kristin Halvorsen, Norway’s Finance Minister and Val Koromzay, OECD Economics Director. Among the questions investigated by the survey are:
- Should monetary policy tighten faster?
- Should fiscal policy undershoot the public spending rule?
- How can the pension system be made more sustainable?
- How can labour market performance be improved?
- Is there a puzzle about innovation in Norway?
- How to promote innovation and entrepreneurship?
Journalists will be allowed advance access to the electronic version of the publication, by e-mail and under embargo, four hours ahead of release time. For journalists in Asia/Pacific time zones such advance access is allowed 12 hours ahead of release time.
