Nepal needs Finnish expertise
Nepal, which is recovering from prolonged conflict, now faces new threats. “Climate changes is already visible in the Himalayan region. Weather conditions have changed a lot, and the effects are seen by the poorest people.” In this way Ram Sharan Mahat, Minister of Finance of Nepal, who visited Finland early in the week, described the challenges facing his country. Nepal is one of Finland’s eight main long-term partner countries for development cooperation.

Hanna Aschan, Manager of Nursing at Helsinki University Central Hospital (HUCH), believes there will soon be a great need for more skilled and trained healthcare personnel. The work will have to be reorganized and existing work communities primed to welcome staff from other countries.

OECD PISA 2006: excellent results for Finnish students
The knowledge and skills of Finnish students in science, mathematics and reading are of the highest order. In science and mathematics they are rated best in the OECD countries and in reading the second best. The main focus in PISA 2006 was science literacy.

The changing face of the Finnish capital
The makeup of Helsinki's population has changed quite dramatically over the past two decades. As the city becomes increasingly more cosmopolitan, this is reflected in the growing number of multicultural offerings ranging from world music festivals and exhibitions to new ethnic restaurants and bars.

Under-Secretary of the State Ms Marjatta Rasi visits Nepal
Ms Marjatta Rasi, Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, visits Nepal from 2 to 6 October 2007. During her visit to Nepal, Ms Rasi will meet key political players, representatives of the international community as well as members of the civil society. She will also cochair the Annual Consultation between Nepal and Finland.

Finland is the least corrupted country in the world
According to Transparency International's CPI (Corruption Perception Index) Finland is the least corrupted country in the world. Finland shares its CPI score with Denmark and New Zealand. Last year Finland shared the first place with Denmark and Iceland.
