Nepalese women experience violence in the workplace and at home
The threat of violence has become routine for many women in Nepal. Neeru Seth is one of them. Finland wants to take women into account in all development cooperation, says Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala, who visited Nepal.

Minister Heidi Hautala to visit Cambodia, South Korea and Nepal
Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala will make a trip to Cambodia, South Korea and Nepal between 26 November and 7 December. During her trip, Hautala will attend the Meeting of the States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Landmine Ban Convention in Phnom Penh and the High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan. In addition, she will visit Nepal, Finland’s long-term partner country.

Finland Helps Improve the Financial Situation of the UN
Finland has been thanked by the UN for being one of the countries that have met all of their financial obligations to the Organization in full and on time. The UN Secretary-General’s Report of 18 October 2011 Improving the financial situation of the United Nations (1/66/521) states that the only way to ensure a more stable financial base for the work of the UN is for all Member States to meet their financial obligations.

President Halonen at the UN General Assembly: The importance of the UN has increased
According to President of the Republic Tarja Halonen, the UN Millennium Declaration and Millennium Development Goals have proved to be effective tools in reduction of extreme poverty. “The work must continue with enhanced determination,” she said in her speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on 21 September 2011. The guiding principles of the United Nations Charter – peace and security, human rights and development – have served well for decades.
