Finland to chair Council of Europe´s Committee of Experts on Terrorism

Finnish Marja Lehto was appointed to chair the Council of Europe´s Committee of Experts on Terrorism, Codexter. The Committee made the appointment in its meeting on 8-10 November. Lehto is Director of the Unit for Public International Law at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Russian Alexander Zmeyevskiy was appointed first Vice-Chair. Other chairing members are Andrea Candrian from Switzerland and Roberto Bellelli from Italy. All appointments were unanimous. The appointments will take place as of January 2006.

The Committee was launched two years ago. One of its main achievements has been the drafting of the Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism which was opened for signature at the summit of the Council of Europe in Warsaw in May 2005.
