A group of 30 talented young people will meet once again in Finland next June at the third Millennium Youth Camp. The application process for the 2012 Millennium Youth Camp has now begun, the first round closes on 19th of December 2011.

Journalists would bring transparency from Finland to Africa
Just short of twenty African journalists made visits to key elements of Finland’s success: education, business, information technology, good governance, crisis management as well as water and forestry expertise. The most powerful experiences of the journalists’ trip were the visit to Nuuksio National Park and bathing in a smoke sauna followed by a dip in the autumn waters of Tuusulanjärvi lake.

High-level candidates in pursuit of the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize
Almost 40 candidates have been nominated for the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize. “The level of technological achievement in the nominations received is high, with innovations from a broader range of technology sectors than in previous years,” says Ainomaija Haarla, President and CEO of Technology Academy Finland. ”Robust knowledge of both basic science and technological applications was very apparent.”

Finland to Support UNODC Piracy Prisoner Transfer Programme
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland has granted Euro 190 000 for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Piracy Prisoner Transfer Programme (PPTP). The main aim of the programme is to construct a new prison in Garowe, Puntland. The 500 bed prison will be mainly used for housing convicted Somali pirates.

Finland Present at the World Federation of the Deaf and Education International Conferences held in South Africa
Two major conferences were held in South Africa in July. The first one was the 16th World Federation of the Deaf Conference, between the 18th and 24th of July in Durban. The second one was the Educational International Conference, which was held between the 22nd and 26th of July in Cape Town.
