Virtual Finland and Info-Finlande launch online Culture Gallery

Culture Gallery is a digital showcase of contemporary Finnish artists and designers created jointly by Virtual Finland and Info-Finlande, the website of the Finnish Embassy in Paris. The idea of designing the gallery sprang from a report by Hannele Koivunen in 2004 which envisaged a role for Virtual Finland in spreading Finnish culture visually on the internet by displaying the work of fresh, new artistic creators.

The first show features young photographers and designers; the former represented by Tiina Itkonen, Marja Helander, Jari Silomäki, Ola Kolehmainen and Elina Brotherus; the latter by Harri Koskinen, Aamu Song, Saara Renvall and Mikko Paakkanen plus the duo Anna Katriina Tilli and Mari Relander.

The works presented are available for download as mini portfolios and visitors can join the gallery's guest list and so receive invitations to each new show. Already waiting in the wings are presentations of media-art, paintings, and choreography.

Culture Gallery's first curator is Pia Reunala, a versatile connoisseur of the arts, and expert on the cultural milieus of New York, Paris and Helsinki. She has collaborated seamlessly with Virtual Finland and the Paris production team in successfully creating this new outlet for Finland in art and design.
