Finland continues among the world's most competitive economies

Finland has maintained its position as the second most competitive country in the world after Switzerland. Last year's first, the United States, dropped to sixth position.

Sweden became third in the survey of a total of 125 economies, which was conducted by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The WEF commends Finland for an excellent management of the economy and the timely provision for and social commitments linked to the ageing of the population. Furthermore, Finland has understood to make difficult political decisions even when the economy is thriving, which is something not all industrial countries are capable of.

The United States' poorer performance was due to an imbalanced trade and a huge public debt. Business managers' views have also become gloomier.
