Foreign Minister Tuomioja signs agreement on the promotion and protection of investments between Finland and Georgia

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja signed an agreement between Finland and Georgia on the promotion and protection of investments at an event held in Helsinki on 24 November. Signing on behalf of Georgia was Gela Bezhuashvili, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

With this new agreement, Finland strives to promote the access of Finnish enterprises to Georgian markets and to ensure the operating conditions of Finnish enterprises in the country. The agreement guarantees that Finnish investments are treated impartially with regard to both domestic investments and investments from third countries, and furthers the stability and predictability of the investment environment.

There are now 52 agreements on promotion and protection of investments in force between Finland and other nations. Of Eastern European and Central Asian countries, agreements are in force or negotiations have been concluded with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Moldova, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
