Ambassador to Abu Dhabi and three non-resident Ambassadors
At the presidential session on Friday 29 September, the President of the Republic appointed one new Ambassador and three new non-resident Ambassadors.
Embassy of Finland in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Tuula Yrjölä to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi from 17 October 2023. Yrjölä is an experienced diplomat. Most recently, she served as Director of the Conflict Prevention Centre and Deputy Head of the OSCE Secretariat in 2020–2023.
In 2018–2020, Yrjölä served as Ambassador for Democratic and Effective Societies and Education at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Before that, she served two years as Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
In the Foreign Service, Yrjölä has served as Ambassador of Finland to the Arab Republic of Egypt, as Roving Ambassador to Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as Director of the Unit for Eastern Europe and Central Asia and as Counsellor on EU enlargement.
She has also served in New York and Kyiv during her career in the Diplomatic Service. Her diplomatic career started in 1995.
Three non-resident Ambassadors
The President of the Republic appointed three new non-resident Ambassadors.
The President of the Republic appointed Ambassador Ari Mäki, Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Mexico City, to serve as a non-resident Ambassador to Cuba, marking the end of Roving Ambassador Pertti Ikonen’s accreditation to Cuba.
The President of the Republic appointed Ambassador Niklas Lindqvist, Head of Mission at the Embassy in Belgrade, to serve as a non-resident Ambassador to Montenegro and Ambassador Marjaana Sall, Head of Mission at the Embassy in Rabat, to serve as a non-resident Ambassador to Mauritania.
