Finland's eastern border to remain closed
The Government has decided that the border crossing points on the land border between Finland and Russia will remain closed until 11 February 2024. It will not be possible to submit applications for international protection at any border crossing points on the land border between Finland and Russia. The Government decided on the matter in its session on 11 January 2024.
Finland to increase financial requirement for Schengen visas to EUR 50 per day of stay and introduce proof of sponsorship form concerning visa applicants
As of 1 January 2024, Finland will increase travellers' daily financial requirement to EUR 50 per day of stay. Finland will simultaneously introduce a proof of sponsorship and/or accommodation form, which will allow visa applicants to finance their visit using the funds of the inviting party.
Embassy of Finland and UNFPA co-hosted the Business Against Domestic Violence Workshop
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Embassy of Finland in Ankara co-hosted a workshop for international organizations to end the gender based violence. Several international organizations, including World Bank, Council of Europe, and European Investment Bank came to together to identify good practices and ways to form partnerships between private sector and international organizations to support social development, promote human rights and specifically end gender based violence.
Reflectors as a Finnish Innovation at Ankara High School
The Embassy of Finland in Ankara had an event at Ankara High School attended by Ambassador Pirkko Hämäläinen introducing Finland and the use of reflectors in Finnish culture. The event was organized in collaboration with Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and Finnish reflectors were distributed to the students.
The 106th anniversary of the Republic of Finland's independence was celebrated
The 106th anniversary of the Republic of Finland's independence was celebrated with a reception held in Ankara. The reception took place at the Ankara JW Marriott Hotel. The reception, hosted by Ambassador Pirkko Mirjami Hämäläinen of Finland in Ankara, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and EU President Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay, as well as diplomats and mission chiefs.
'Teachers from Finland' Exhibition in Ankara
Finnish Teachers Exhibition in Ankara Sanayi Odası Cultural Center was opened with the speeches by Ambassador Pirkko Hämäläinen and ASO Management Board member Burcu Özbozkurt. The opening reception hosted teachers from around Ankara as well as education experts and art enthusiasts.
