Weaving Tradition, Weaving the Future

Finnish visual artist Lotta-Pia Kallio participated as invited in an international exhibition of contemporary textile art in Cermodern, Ankara 29.5-12.6.2022.

The exhibition brought together under one exhibition, female artists from eight different countries and cultures. Artists representing in the exhibition were from Finland, France, South Africa, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy, and Turkey are featured in the selection.  Across cultures, throughout time, fiber arts such as weaving, knitting, sewing, and embroidery have been relegated as "women's work", thus largely dismissed. Here the artists used their art as a tool to express their views of tradition and feminity.

Muse Contemporary aimed to bring forward an art form that empowers women.

Lotta-Pia Kallio “sees her creative process as a ritual in which the used and the broken change shape and are born into other forms”.
