Position as Consular Services Assistant (Immigration) at the Embassy of Finland in Ankara from 3 April 2023 or as per agreement

We are seeking to recruit an open-minded, positive, detail-oriented multi-skilled team player with good communications skills and high integrity and responsibility as Immigration Services Assistant to our dynamic consular team for the period of 3.4.2023 – 31.5.2025.

The Embassy of Finland is the official representative of the Finnish government in Turkey. Consular services are one of the focus areas of the Embassy, which makes it a regional hub especially in the Immigration affairs. 

We are seeking to recruit an open-minded, positive, detail-oriented multi-skilled team player with good communications skills and high integrity and responsibility as Immigration Services Assistant to our dynamic consular team for the period of 3.4.2023 – 31.5.2025.

If you enjoy helping people, you are familiar with immigration issues and would like to learn more and want to be part of our high-performing consular team this might be the job for you. As an Immigration Services Assistant, you will be responsible for many vital steps of the case processing and for working closely together with everyone in the team. Your ability to face challenging tasks while keeping your composure under pressure is essential, as well as your willingness to assume routine tasks.


Your tasks

  • Daily management of immigration and consular matters
  • Organising the visa archives
  • Completing visa handling checks
  • Examination of Schengen visa and residence permit applications and related documentation as well as interviewing applicants
  • Customer service, incl. information and guidance
  • Liaising with VFS Global officers  with regard to visa and residence permit issues
  • Participating in assisting Finns in distress in Turkey using Turkish-English / English-Turkish interpreting skills e.g. in repatriations, hospitalizations, criminal and court matters
  • Assisting the Finnish Honorary Consulates in consular issues
  • Unofficial translations of official documents (from Turkish to English and vice versa)
  • Follow-up of possible court cases and other pending consular assistance cases
  • Contributing to other activities within the consular team
  • Other tasks assigned by Head of the Mission

What we expect from you

  • Both written and spoken fluency in English and Turkish language
  • Relevant educational level, e.g. bachelor’s degree or similar administrative qualifications and/or relevant working experience
  • A high sense of integrity and responsibility
  • An open-minded, positive and result-oriented approach to work with customer service orientation
  • Meticulousness and patience in handling the assignments
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and team player abilities
  • Interest in and willingness to share knowledge with - and learn from - colleagues
  • Good knowledge of MS Office
  • Experience from similar kind of work is an advantage

Employment conditions 

  • You are offered a full time position and be appointed according to regulations for local staff at the Embassy of Finland Embassy in Ankara, Türkiye.
  • Your standard working hours will be 36h15m per week. 
  • You will be entitled to 20 days of paid holiday per year.
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results. The employee is responsible for paying the annual tax.  

Additional information

  • Safety analysis report will be made for the most potential candidate (according to the Finnish law 726/2014)
  • The Consular Services Assistant will be employed according to regulations for local staff at the Embassy of Finland with local Turkish labor law prevailing.
  • Training to the position arranged at the Embassy and/or in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki.
