Fund for Local Cooperation
The Fund for Local Cooperation (FLC) is an instrument of Finnish development cooperation. It aims to develop and strengthen civil society in line with the overall objective and cross cutting objectives of Finland’s development policy; eradicating extreme poverty, strengthening the rights of the most vulnerable, promoting gender equality and improving climate change preparedness and mitigation. The fund for local cooperation is based on a human rights based approach.
The FLC support is channelled through local civil society organisations and it complements the bilateral development cooperation of Finland with the Palestinian Authority. Finland’s goal for development cooperation in Palestine is to support Palestinian state building and contribute a peaceful, negotiated two-state solution. Through the FLC instrument, Finland aims to support the participation of the civil society in the peace and development process.
Based on Finland’s country strategy for development cooperation in the occupied Palestinian territory for 2016-2019 the FLC will focus on enhancing the rights and status of women. In 2016-2018 the following projects were supported:
- East Jerusalem YMCA: Empowering Young Palestinian Women with Disabilities to Access their Social and Economic Rights, 127152€
- Juzoor for Health and Social development: Promoting an integrated and multi-sectoral approach to provide services to women and girls victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV), 64006€
- Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA): Women Journalists First, towards, professional journalists and reducing gender stereotyping, 45000€
- Diyar: The Palestinian Naksa of 1967 and its implications, 10000€
In 2019 the representative office will select one new project for funding with the aim of enhancing the rights and status of women and a focus on women, peace and security. The call for proposals ended on 14 March 2019. Total of 38 applications were received on time.
