Democracy and human rights on the agenda in Warsaw
The OSCE´s main annual human rights and democracy event, the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting, HDIM was opened in Warsaw on 26th of September, and lasts until 7th of October. This year´s meeting´s special focus is on the situation of Roma and Sinti, free elections and freedom of movement.

Too early to make a decision on the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area
The EU Justice and Home Affairs Council discussed today, on 22 September, the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area. In practice, the accession would mean that internal border checks be lifted at the borders between Bulgaria and Romania and the other EU countries. ‘Finland considers that it is yet too early to make a decision on the accession of these two states to the Schengen area,’ said Minister of the Interior Päivi Räsänen.
