Finnish President concluded his visit to Poland in Auschwitz-Birkenau
The President of Republic of Finland, Mr Sauli Ninistö visited Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum on Thursday, October 10th, in Oświęcim, Southern Poland The museum was introduced to the President by the museum director, dr Piotr M.A. Cywiński. After his visit, the President was very moved. He thought the eternal question why and how all this evil was possible. The Memorial and Museum will remain as a living proof of that all.

A Finnish Band Apulanta on the road in Poland (August 29 in Gdansk and August 30 i Poznan)
fter successfull twenty years, Apulanta is performing in Europe again during August 29 – September 7. Apulanta starts its tour in Poland in Gdansk on August 29 (Czwartek) and in Poznan on August 30 (Piątek).

Results of water samples taken in Poland indicate significant phosphorous discharges from phosphogypsum stacks
In June, the Ministers of the Environment of Poland and Finland agreed on a joint venture between the two countries in order to estimate the phosphorous discharges of two of Poland’s phosphogypsum stacks. The analyses of the samples taken at the start of July are now complete and the results will be announced today. The analysis results of the samples taken at the phosphogypsum stack in Gdansk indicate significant phosphorous discharges.

Prime Minister Katainen to Poland
On 27 May, Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen will meet the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, in Gdansk. The premiers’ discussions will focus on key EU issues such as the development of the Economic and Monetary Union, the banking union and enlargement, which are themes at the June European Council. They will also discuss the Common Security and Defence Policy and touch upon the preparatory work for the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in the autumn in Vilnius.

Nominations open for leading science and technology award
Technology Academy Finland has called on universities, research institutes and industrial organisations from around the world to nominate candidates for the sixth Millennium Technology Prize – one of the World’s leading science and technology awards. The nomination period for the prize begins on January 14, 2013 and will remain open until July 31, 2013. The Grand Prize Winner(s) will be announced at a ceremony in Helsinki in June 2014.

Minister Stubb to Poland to discuss the financial framework
Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will travel to Poland on 5 February. He will have meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski and Secretary of State, Deputy Minister Piotr Serafin in Warsaw.

President Niinistö demanded for sense of justice and social integrity in his New Year’s Speech
In his first New Year’s Speech on 1 January 2013, President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö demanded for sense of justice and social integrity in order for overcoming difficulties. “The power of integrity is the power of overcoming difficulties. We have experienced this before. We have overcome many tougher periods than we are facing now. Is this fundamental Finnish virtue changing somehow?”, the President reflected.
