Foreign Minister Kanerva to visit Poland

Ilkka Kanerva, Minister for Foreign Affairs, will make his first visit to Poland on Friday, 25 May and will hold talks in Warsaw with his colleague Anna Fotyga, Minster of Foreign Affairs of Poland. Central topics of discussion with Poland are major issues on the European Union agenda as the beginning of the final month of the German Presidency approaches: the Constitutional Treaty; relations with Russia; Kosovo; energy policy; and the European Council meeting in June.

Security policy issues, transatlantic relations and cooperation in the Baltic Sea region will also be discussed in Warsaw. In bilateral issues, the intention is to discuss Finnish companies’ possibilities to participate in large construction projects being launched in Poland in connection with the 2012 European Championships in football to be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

In Warsaw Foreign Minister Kanerva will also meet with Bronisław Komorowski, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm, the Polish Parliament. Furthermore, during his visit Kanerva will sign the data security agreement on mutual protection of classified information between Finland and Poland.
