Prime Minister Juha Sipilä visited Poland on Wednesday 6 March and met with Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki. The purpose of the visit was to prepare for Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which starts in July. Also on the agenda were other topical EU affairs and bilateral relations between the countries.

Key topics were the main EU themes for Finland’s Presidency, including finalising the next Multiannual Financial Framework, finding a comprehensive solution to controlling migration, EMU and its development, and Brexit. During the Presidency Finland will also focus on the development of the Single Market, deepening the EU’s common security and defence policy, and measures by the EU to mitigate climate change.

Prime Minister Sipilä will have bilateral talks with all EU Heads of State or Government before the start of Finland’s Presidency.
