Tuomi-Nikula appointed as Director General and Uusikartano as Chief of Information and Documentation

The Finnish Government has today, on 29 September, appointed Ambassador Petri Tuomi-Nikula as Director General of Department for Information and Culture at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as of 1 November, 2005. He will transfer to his new position from his current post as Press Counsellor of the Finnish mission in London. Earlier, Tuomi-Nikula has worked in information tasks in the external affairs administration, for instance, as Deputy Director General of the Department for Press and Culture, press officer in Finnish missions to Vienna and Bonn, and Secretary-General of the Finnish EU Presidency Secretariat in 1996-2000. Between the years 2000 and 2003 Tuomi-Nikula acted as Chief of Information and Marketing at ICL-Invia. He has journalistic experience from MTV, Finnish News Agency and Finnish Broadcasting Company.

The former Director General of the Department for Information and Culture Yrjö Länsipuro will on 1 October, 2005, become Ambassador answering for Finnish participation in the UN World Summit on the Information Society, to be held in Tunis in November, and its follow-up. During October, Deputy Director General Ulla-Maria Helaniemi will serve as the acting Director General of the Department for Information and Culture.

The Finnish Government has today, on 29 September, appointed Chief Counsellor Ari Uusikartano as Chief of Information and Documentation at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as of 1 November, 2005. He will succeed the former Chief of Information and Documentation Martti Favorin, who retired in spring. Master of Science Ari Uusikartano’s latest position has been as Chief Counsellor responsible for development of information management at the Ministry for Trade and Industry, and before that he acted as Chief of Information Management at the same ministry. Earlier he has worked also as Chief EDP Designer at the Finnish Defence Forces Research Centre, and in similar duties, for instance, at the Regional Occupational Health Institution of Oulu, the Vocational Adult Education College of Rovaniemi, and the Oulu University.
