Finland and Estonia have had very different paths to success. Do Finns have something to learn from the strategies pursued by their southern neighbour? And what’s in store for the future of Finnish-Estonian cooperation?

This one-day seminar took a look at some of the most important current issues in Finnish-Estonian cooperation, as well at future developments. Member of Parliament Heidi Hautala, Mikko Mäenpää (President of the Finnish Confederation of Salaried Employees), and Joakim Helenius (CEO and Chairman of Trigon Capital SA) were discussing issues related to different welfare models.

Mr Alvin Rabushka was a very popular discussion partner at the Reception

The panel on tax systems and tax competition was featured by Professor Alvin Rabushka (Stanford University), EVA Parliament Fellow Mart Laar, and Jukka Pekkarinen (Director General of the Finnish Ministry of Finance). Other speakers included Esko Aho (President of Sitra), Professor Bengt Holmström (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Secretary General Matti Maasikas, Tallinn City Mayor Jüri Ratas, and Helsinki Lord Mayor Jussi Pajunen.

Estonian executive Kadri Tali and Helsinki City Cultural Director Pekka Timonen presented their vision of future Finnish-Estonian cultural cooperation.

The EVA SYMPOSIUM was held at Eesti Kunstimuuseum KUMU (the Estonian Art Museum). A presentation on the venue itself was given by its designer, Finnish Architect Pekka Vapaavuori.
