Diplomatic relations 60 years: Cyprus meets Finland concert

On Thursday 4th November, Cyprus Symphony Orchestra presented "Cyprus meets Finland" (Premiere 2) concert at Pallas Theatre, Nicosia. The remarkable concert, supported by the Embassy of Finland, celebrated a cooperation between Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and two dynamic musicians from Finland: Solo Cellist Petros Gospodinov and Conductor Tomas Djupsjöbacka. Ambassador Harri Mäki-Reinikka welcomed the distinguished guests of the Embassy to a pre-concert cocktail event at Chateau Status, Nicosia.

The honoured starring musicians of the concert were Petros Gospodinov, previous Principal Cellist of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and now the Solo Cellist at the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, and Maestro Tomas Djupsjöbacka, Chief Conductor of the Vaasa City Orchestra. The "Cyprus meets Finland" concert presented works by two of the most esteemed composers of the two countries: The Suite for string orchestra by Cypriot composer Phanos Dymiotis and Jean Sibelius’ Pelléas et Mélisande Suite, a musical expression of the dramatic story of Maeterlinck’s symbolic play by the same name. In addition, they interpreted the Cyprus premiere of the cello concerto by Jaakko Kuusisto, esteemed composer and Chief Conductor of the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.
