Legalising documents
The Finnish authorities may ask you to legalise a foreign document. This should be done in the country where the document was issued.
- The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the issuing country certifies that the document is genuine and has been issued by its authority
- The competent Finnish mission in the country legalises the document by appending to it a certificate proving the right of the official at the country’s ministry for foreign affairs to issue such certificates.
Legalization of Angolan documents
The Embassy of Finland in Namibia legalizes documents issued in Angola. The document to be legalized must be an original.
1. The legalization mark is either written directly on the document or the signature of an official of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on a completely different paper and the sticker and stamp of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2. You can send the legalization request by e-mail to [email protected], but the documents themselves must either be brought to the embassy in person or sent at your own expense by courier service.
3. Attach a cover letter to the document that explains the purpose of the legalization.
4. Once we have approved the document for legalization, we will send instructions for paying the legalization fee by email. The legalization fee should not be paid until you have received payment instructions from the embassy. Once you have made the payment, email the payment receipt to the embassy as proof of payment.
5. The Embassy of Finland in Windhoek only legalizes documents issued by the Angolan authorities, which have been translated from Portuguese to English by an official translator and legalized by the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
