The Apostille Convention between Finland and Vietnam entered into force on 11 September 2026.

Original documents issued by the Vietnamese authorities can now be certified with an Apostille certificate issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. After obtaining the Apostille certificate, the documents no longer need to be legalized separately by the Embassy of Finland in Hanoi.

The Embassy will continue to provide other notarial services, such as certifying signatures and copies of documents, as well as issuing certificates of life.

The Embassy may also continue to forward notifications concerning the registration of marriages and the birth of children to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV).

Customers who have already submitted documents for legalization and whose documents are currently being processed by the Embassy will have their cases handled in accordance with the previous practice. Customers who have already booked an appointment for legalization may cancel their appointment and obtain an Apostille certificate for their document instead.
