New Country Strategies provide guidance for development cooperation in 2016–2019
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has prepared Country Strategies for bilateral cooperation for 2016–2019. The new Strategies lay greater emphasis than before on, for example, the improvement of the position and rights of women and girls and on strengthening the partner countries’ business life.

Improved electricity supply for Tanzania’s capital
Dar es Salaam, the capital city of Tanzania, now has a more reliable modern electricity grid, built up with support from Finland. Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen officially opened the new control centre for the city’s electricity distribution grid on Wednesday 16th November, while visiting Tanzania.

Some 30 suspicions of misuse of development cooperation funds every year
In 2015, a total of 30 suspicions of misuse of development cooperation funds were reported to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs: five via an external whistle-blower system and 25 via internal channels. The Ministry takes all suspicions of misuse very seriously and alleged cases of misuse are always examined.

Forest surveys in developing countries support climate change mitigation
Finland’s support has helped developing countries map their forest resources with good results. Decisions on climate change mitigation and adaptation require background information on the number of forests, changes to forests, and species.
