European Affairs Ministers appeal to voters

Between this coming 10 and 13 June, 338 million voters will elect their 732 representatives in the European Parliament. The first European elections in a Union of twenty-five will demonstrate that we share the same goals of peace, solidarity and security, and that Europe counts in the world.

The Ministers responsible for European affairs in the 25 countries of the European Union launched the following appeal on 3 June:

It is you, the citizens of Europe, who shape the future of our continent. By exercising your vote at the forthcoming European Parliament elections you will have the opportunity to contribute to the planning of Europe's future.

Europe is much more than an economic community. It is a vibrant community of shared values and aspirations. Far from being an abstract concept, Europe is a feature of the daily lives of each and every one of us.

The European Parliament is a key player in the process of European integration. Most of the common rules that affect your everyday lives go through the Parliament. Over the next five years, the Parliament will be involved in adopting vital decisions that matter to Europe and your future. This is what is at stake in these elections.
