EU-Republic of Korea Summit in Helsinki on 9 September

Finland, the current holder of the EU Presidency, will organise the EU-Republic of Korea Summit in Helsinki on 9 September. The EU will be represented by the Prime Minister of Finland, Matti Vanhanen; President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso; High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana; Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Erkki Tuomioja; Finnish Minister for Trade and Development, Paula Lehtomäki; and Member of the European Commission, Benita Ferrero-Waldner. The Republic of Korea will be represented by President Roh Moo-hyun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technology Kim Woo-sik, Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon and Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Chung Sye-kyun.

The aim of the summit is to strengthen political and economic relations between the European Union and Republic of Korea. The summit will focus on bilateral relations between the European Union and Republic of Korea and on key international and trade policy issues. An agreement on the participation of the Republic of Korea in Galileo cooperation is also to be signed during the summit. 

President Roh Moo-hyun will visit Finland between 7 and 12 September and he will also attend the ASEM Summit.
