Team Finland in South Korea
Team Finland in South Korea
The Team Finland network promotes Finland and its interests abroad: the internationalisation of Finnish enterprises, investments in Finland, and the country brand. The Team Finland operating model brings together the key actors and services in these fields. The core of the network consists of the publicly funded organisations operating in these fields, such as the ministries, Finland’s network of diplomatic missions, Business Finland, national culture and science institutes, Finnvera, Finnfund, and the regional internationalisation services, built upon the ELY Centres.
The Team Finland network will help your enterprise become more international, grow, and succeed in the global market. For more information on services to companies seeking internationalisation, see: https://team.finland.fi/en/services

Objectives of the Team Finland network
South Koreans have a very good image of Finland that in their view represents high technology, clean environment, healthy lifestyle and Nordic design. Finland is seen as a reliable trading partner that is, like South Korea, a leader in technology (especially green technology) and innovation and has a long tradition as a welfare state.
South Korea is Finland's third biggest trading partner in Asia after China and Japan. Finland's main export items to South Korea have been machinery and devices, electronics as well as wood and paper products. Emerging export sectors include service exports and solutions related to renewable energy, clean technology and welfare. Around 40-50 Finnish companies operate in Korea and a total of 200 companies are represented in the country.
Entering the South Korean market has been perceived as challenging due to not only tariffs but also internationally divergent standards as well as differing practices between authorities. In addition, the protection of intellectual property has been inadequate. South Korea, however, is a very attractive market being a rapidly growing economy with 50 million consumers. The EU-South Korea Free Trade Agreement that came into force in early July 2011 has significantly helped the accession and the competitiveness of EU area businesses in the Korean market. In addition to tariff liberalization, tackling other barriers to trade and the liberalization of trade in services are of special importance to the EU and to Finland. South Korea is committed to addressing any problems that are detected.
Team Finland in South Korea helps Finnish companies to access the Korean market, as well as to tackle emerging challenges when operating in Korea. In addition, we promote Finland and Finnish companies through different channels. By authoritative and expert services we support networking and collaboration between Finnish and South Korean parties. With the results-oriented co-operation, we will ensure the high level of Finland’s competitiveness and the positive development of trade between our two countries also in the future.
