Finland participates in Nato's crisis management exercise

Finland will participate in Nato's crisis management exercise called CMX 2005 from 26 January to 1 February. The exercise will focus on planning and execution procedures between Nato and its partner nations. The exercise provides also an opportunity to practice cooperation between local authorities. The exercise is fictious with no troop deployment.

The annual Nato crisis management exercise is joined by all Nato nations, excluding Luxembourg and Iceland. The nine partner nations involved are Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Finland, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Participants in CMX 2005 will include civil and military staffs in national capitals, at Nato headquarters, and in both strategic commands. Representatives from the UN, EU and OSCE will be invited as observers. Participants in Finland include the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Mission of Finland to Nato in Brussels, the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Staff, the Ministry of the Interior and the Maintenance and Supply Security Centre.
