Ministry for Foreign Affairs seminar about EU Agenda for Improved Human Security

Press release 138/2006
12 May, 2006

Professor Mary Kaldor, Head of the Centre for the Study of Global Governance at the London School of Economics, will visit Helsinki on 17 May with the independent study group of experts she is leading. In connection with the visit, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise a seminar "Human Security - Agenda for the European Union", which prepares for the Finnish EU Presidency, beginning in July.

The study group of experts working under Mary Kaldor is examining Europe's capabilities of enhancing security using security of an individual as its starting point, instead of approaching the subject from an institutional or geopolitical point of view. The study group submitted the so-called Barcelona Report "A Human Security Doctrine for Europe" to EU High Representative Javier Solana in September 2004.
