Foreign Minister Petras Vaitiekūnas of Lithuania to visit Finland

Petras Vaitiekūnas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, will have talks with Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva in Helsinki on Friday, 1 February. Vaitiekūnas will also meet with President Tarja Halonen, Minister of Migration and European Affairs Astrid Thors and Erkki Tuomioja, Chair of the Grand Committee of the Finnish Parliament.

Among the topics of discussion will be the European Union’s relations with Russia and EU neighbourhood policy. In addition, the foreign ministers will discuss challenges facing the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Finland and Lithuania both belong to the OSCE “quintet”, as Lithuania will hold the chairmanship of the OSCE in 2011. Baltic Sea region cooperation and bilateral relations between Finland and Lithuania will also be on the agenda for the talks.
