Sibelius Seminar at the Athens University 

Celebrating the 2015 anniversary of great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (150 years from his birth), the Music Studies Department of the Athens University organises a Sibelius Seminar on Wednesday, December 2, at 3.00 - 6.00 p.m. The event is organised with the collaboration of the Embassy of Finland in Athens.  

The seminar includes:

1st part  

  • Lecture (in English) by the distinguished musicologist Eero Tarasti, Professor at Helsinki University: "The music of Jean Sibelius – the 150th anniversary of the Finnish Composer" 

2nd part

  • Sibelius songs and piano works, performed by soprano Lenia Safiropoulou and Nikos Christodoulou at the piano. An introduction (in English), alongside the performances, to Sibelius's music by conductor and composer Nikos Christodoulou: "Remarks on Sibelius's harmony, form and originality"
