Olavinlinna castle will provide a superb setting for a new production of Tosca, with Artist of the Year Kristin Lewis in the title role. Our own productions of Madama Butterfly, Carmen and Lucia di Lammermoor will also return for another season. The visiting opera house in 2010 will be the Royal Swedish Opera with productions of The Marriage of Figaro and Elektra.

Leading chamber musicians will transfix the town of Kuhmo in Eastern Finland this July. A skilfully designed festival programme, inimitable concerts, beautiful surroundings and sunlit nights will open the senses to new and sublime delights.

The landscapes of Lake Tuusula form the crucible of the Finnish cultural world, providing the backdrop for a unique journey through the wonders of living chamber music. Artistic Director Pekka Kuusisto is expecting several leading musicians to take up his invitation to perform at the festival, as in previous years. We cannot guarantee that everything you hear will be safe and familiar, but open-minded audiences can rest assured of satisfaction.

This spectacular event is one of Europe’s most important festivals of professional theatre, serving as a display window for the finest Finnish and international productions. The top class festival programme will include 21st century drama, classics, performances, dance and street theatre.

Under the capable guidance of its new Artistic Director Topi Lehtipuu, this versatile city festival will once again provide top class music for a wide range of tastes, including major orchestral concerts, chamber music, recitals, jazz, and concerts for children. All concert venues are in the city centre. Performers will be leading Finnish and international artists.
