National event to discuss role of the UN Declaration on Human Rights in realising all human rights
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In honour of the anniversary, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise, in cooperation with several partners, a national celebration ‘UN Declaration on Human Rights: 75 years of support to everyday human rights actions’ at Helsinki Music Centre on 8 December.
The event will discuss ways in which the UN Declaration on Human Rights can support us in responding to today's global challenges and how it supports us in our daily lives. Participants will include international and Finnish human rights defenders, political decision-makers and young people.
The event will also feature two performances that set the Human Rights Declaration to music. The pieces to be performed won the song challenge organised in honour of the anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights. Participants are encouraged to reflect on how we can all promote human rights in our daily lives.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has organised the event together with the Finnish Section of Amnesty International, the European Parliament Information Office in Finland, the City of Helsinki, the Human Rights Centre, the Finnish League for Human Rights, the Finnish NGO Foundation for Human Rights (KIOS), the UN Association of Finland, and UN Youth of Finland.
