Traineeship opportunity at the Embassy of Finland in Addis Ababa

The Embassy of Finland in Addis Ababa is seeking a motivated and proactive trainee for a six months fixed-term position starting in June 2026. The role offers an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience in Finland's foreign policy, development cooperation, and multilateral engagement, particularly with the African Union.

 

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will support the Embassy’s staff in a wide range of duties and gain familiarity with the full scope of the Embassy’s work.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in matters related to the African Union (AU), where Finland is a partner country
  • Monitoring and reporting on the political and economic situation in Ethiopia and on development cooperation between Finland and Ethiopia, particularly in regards to humanitarian assistance
  • Conducting background research and analytical tasks in support of diplomatic work
  • Media monitoring and preparation of media summaries
  • Assisting diplomats in their respective duties
  • Preparing incoming visits
  • Assisting in the preparation and organization of Embassy meetings and events
  • Supporting the Embassy’s communications, including updating the Embassy’s social media accounts
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the Embassy’s management

Eligibility Requirements

  • The applicant must be a university student in a relevant field, such as international relations, political science, economics, development studies, law, communications, or a related discipline, or have graduated no more than one year prior to the start of the position
  • This position is open only to candidates currently residing in Ethiopia.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong interest in international relations, foreign policy, development cooperation, or related fields
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a multicultural environment
  • Excellent command of English; additional language skills are considered an asset
  • Strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to undertake a wide variety of tasks
