Finland candidates for OSCE chairmanship

Finland has announced its candidacy to chair the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE, in 2008. The organisation is currently chaired by Romania, followed by Portugal next year. Finland has not previously acted as chairman of the OSCE.

Since the Conference for Security and Cooperation in Europe took place in Helsinki in 1975, the process has transformed into an organisation called OSCE (1994). Its secretariat is located in Vienna. Its tasks include early warning, crisis management, post-conflict rehabilitation and promotion of military confidence and security.
