Open position: Commercial Advisor
The Embassy of Finland in Brussels is looking for a Commercial Advisor to promote Finland’s economic relations with Belgium, Luxembourg and the Benelux region.
In this role, you will work as a Commercial Adviser, promoting economic and trade relations between Finland, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Benelux region, and supporting the internationalization of Finnish companies.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Identifying and promoting business opportunities in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Benelux region, to Finnish companies by organizing delegations, visits, and meetings; ensuring these countries are included in relevant regional and thematic export promotion efforts in Finland. Focus areas include e.g. comprehensive security, defense and maritime sectors
- Monitoring and reporting on the economic situation, market opportunities, trade policy, public finances, and innovation policy in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Benelux region in cooperation with our Embassy in the Hague.
- Cooperating with Finnish companies in the area, addressing challenges they encounter, engaging in advocacy, and sharing best practices.
- Building expertise, networks, and knowledge sharing by providing Finnish stakeholders with insights into market demand and supply, business environments, and key characteristics of the Belgian and Luxembourgish markets.
- Teaming with other Finnish actors in trade promotion activities, including the relevant EU and NATO opportunities.
- Commercial activities: participating in meetings, organizing stakeholder engagements, and responding to company enquiries
- Team Finland work: acting as Team Finland coordinator, preparing and implementing Team Finland plans together with the Ambassador, organizing and participating in Team Finland meetings, and activities to promote the Benelux market.
- Hosting visiting delegations and supporting Embassy operations, including supervising trainees.
- Other tasks specified by the Head of Mission
Qualifications
- A solid understanding of the business environment in Belgium and Luxembourg. Knowledge of the mentioned focus areas is considered an asset.
- Established networks in Belgium and Luxembourg, and experience in liaising with both public and private sector stakeholders; prior experience from an Embassy or international organization as well as Belgian or Luxembourg administration is considered an asset.
- A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a client-oriented mindset
- Ability to take initiative and work proactively
- Fluency in spoken and written Dutch and/or French, as well as English. Knowledge of Dutch is considered an asset.
- A relevant educational background (e.g. a degree in Business, Economics, Social Sciences, Engineering or Law)
- Relevant professional experience
- Strong IT skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, and familiarity with social media platforms
- Knowledge of Finnish companies and business environment is considered as an asset.

Salary and Employment Terms
This job is a position of locally employed staff and is subject to Belgian employment law. Administratively, the position is part of the Joint administration of Finland’s diplomatic missions in Brussels. The employee’s primary workplace is the Embassy of Finland in Brussels.
The position will initially be filled for a fixed term of one year from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027 or by agreement, after which the possibility of an extension can be discussed. The weekly working time is 36:15 hours. The salary for this position is between 4000-4200 €/month gross. The final salary is determined within this range based on the skills and experience of the candidate. The candidate must hold an independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that the right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
