The Finnish Digital and Population Data Services Agency also serves Finns living abroad online

For Finns living abroad, please remember to report all changes to your personal data to the Finnish Digital and Population Data Services Agency (Digi- ja väestötietovirasto/Myndigheten för digitalisering och befolkningsdata). This can easily be done online. Processing of population data notifications via the embassy has changed and is subject to a fee as of 1 September 2020.

On 1 January 2020, the municipal authority and the population registration centre merged into a new agency called the Finnish Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV). The new agency serves the citizens of various places in Finland conveniently online at www.dvv.fi(Link to another website.)

If you live abroad(Link to another website.), you have a mandatory obligation to report changes to your personal data to DVV, such as the birth of a child, marriage, divorce, and change of name or address. The necessary forms and instructions are available on DVV’s websites.

It is important that your own personal data in the population data system is correct. For example, the compilation of voting registers prior to elections is based on the information in the population data system. Incorrect address information can lead to contacts from agencies regarding, for example, notification of voting rights, pension decisions or national service matters not appearing.

Processing of population data notifications via the embassy is subject to a fee as of 1 September 2020, when the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ Payment Ordinance entered into force. The service costs 30 euros.

If you live abroad, you can request transcripts from the population data system by writing to DVV’s secure mail. Remember to always ask for a multilingual certificate so you do not have to have the document translated.

More information and forms are available at the Finnish Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s website at: www.dvv.fi(Link to another website.)
