Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the European Union, visits finland

Javier Solana, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary General of the Council of the European Union, will visit Finland on Wednesday, 31 May, prior to the beginning of the Finnish EU Presidency in July. His talks with Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will focus on the development of the Common Foreign and Security Policy, EU-Russia relations since their recent summit and other topical international issues, such as the situation in the Middle East and Iran.

During his visit, Secretary General Solana will also meet with President Tarja Halonen, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen, Defence Minister Seppo Kääriäinen and members of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee.

The joint press conference by Solana and Tuomioja on Wednesday afternoon will be later available as a webcast on the Foreign Ministry website.
