Foreign Minister Tuomioja will visit Moldova and participate in the informal meeting of EU ministers for foreign affairs in Athens

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will visit Moldova on 3-4 April.

In Chisinau, Tuomioja will have talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Natalia Gherman. During his visit, he will also meet President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and President of the Moldovan Parliament Igor Corman. The topics of discussion will include the bilateral relations between the countries, the relations between Moldova and the EU, the EU’s Eastern Partnership, and regional issues.

Minister Tuomioja will also participate in the informal meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union Member States (Gymnich) in Athens on 4−5 April.

The main topic of the two-day meeting will be the EU’s Neighbourhood Policy, focusing on the Eastern Neighbourhood and the situation in Ukraine in particular. The Ministers will also discuss the EU's Southern Neighbourhood, where the focus will be on the situation in Syria. The Neighbourhood Policy will also be one of the topics on the agenda of the separate meeting held with the candidate countries for accession to the EU on Saturday.

On the second day of the Gymnich meeting, the Ministers will have a discussion of EU Strategic Partners.
