Heads of Finland’s missions abroad to meet in Helsinki

Heads of Finland’s missions abroad and foreign policy leaders will meet again at the Annual Meeting of Heads of Mission in Helsinki on 26–28 August. Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström has been invited as guest speaker to the meeting.

The topics on the agenda include foreign and security policy and issues related to international relations. Finnish state leaders will give policy speeches at the meeting, which will focus on the effects of power politics and disruptive technologies and on Finland’s position in global competition. The programme also provides an opportunity to consider the security situation in Northern Europe.

“Finland conducts its foreign and security policy in a difficult operating environment that is not easy to predict. Finland’s network of diplomatic missions and effective diplomacy are needed more than ever before,” says State Secretary Jukka Salovaara. 

During the meeting, the ambassadors will be addressed by President of the Republic Alexander Stubb, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio, Minister of Finance Riikka Purra, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand and Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz. Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström has been invited as guest speaker to the meeting. In the same week, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit a meeting of Swedish ambassadors in Stockholm.

State Secretary Jukka Salovaara will chair the meeting.
