A bomb exploded under the car of a Finnish diplomat early Tuesday morning in the centre of Athens. Consul Leena Vuorio woke up after three o´clock in the morning in her apartment building after hearing an explosion that set her car on fire. No one was hurt in the incident which is being investigated by the police.

Finland´s Ambassador to Greece Ole Norrback said he did not believe the strike was aimed at the diplomat, the embassy staff or Finland but was rather a coincidence. He said an anarchist group was likely responsible for the explosion as similar incidents have taken place before in Greece. The explosions have caused damage but have not claimed victims. Ambassador Norrback said he believed Greece to be a safe country.
