Helsinki Group adopted its work plan

Press release 25/2004
30 January, 2004

A new consensus on accountable and credible global governance is needed to change political and economic trends in global affairs, concluded the Helsinki Group in its first meeting in Helsinki, on 29-30 January. A new consensus must include not only governments but also international organisations and non-governmental actors from North and South.

The Helsinki Group adopted a work plan to guide its own work and the work of three thematic groups of the Helsinki Process on Globalisation and Democracy.

The group will concentrate on concrete policy recommendations on better delivery of the commitments that the international community has adopted, such as the UN Millennium Declaration and its Millennium Declaration Goals, the Monterrey conference, the Johannesburg summit and the Doha development round.

The Helsinki Group will present its recommendations to the Helsinki Conference in 2005.
