Bulgarian reforms to continue on the path to EU membership

Minister Meglena Kuneva and Minister Paula Lehtomäki “Bulgaria has proceeded on the country’s path of reform, but much work still remains ahead, and we are agreed on this,” said Europe Minister Paula Lehtomäki when she met with her Bulgarian colleague, Europe Minister Meglena Kuneva on 25th September.

Minister Kuneva and State Administration Minister Nikolai Vassilev visited Finland a day before the European Commission was scheduled to release its latest report on Bulgaria’s and Romania’s accession to the European Union.

The Bulgarian ministers look to the future with confidence. “The reforms are continuing and Bulgaria has much to give to Europe. We would be a responsible and committed member, in the same way as Finland,” Minister Kuneva stated.

Lehtomäki refused to speculate about the content of the Commission document to be made public on Tuesday. “The Presidency is waiting for the Commission’s report. In any case, the coming EU Summit will hold in-depth discussions on enlargement,” the Finnish minister said.

In their talks the ministers also discussed energy issues and EU enlargement.
