Declaration by the Presidency on the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Mexico

The Presidency of the European Union welcomes the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Mexico on 2 July 2006, which were free and democratic.

The Presidency of the European Union is confident that all Mexicans will maintain their trust in the electoral institutions and await the final official results of the elections with patience and tranquillity.

The European Union Electoral Observation Mission, which is independent and of technical character, has monitored the electoral process and will publish its findings in due course.

The European Union looks forward to continuing its excellent cooperation and a further strengthening of its relations with Mexico, especially within the framework of the EU-Mexico Association Agreement.
