Paula Lehtomäki returns as Minister for Foreign Trade and Development
On 3 March 2006, the President of the Republic appointed Paula Lehtomäki, Master of Science (Economics and Business Administration), Bachelor of Social Sciences and Member of Parliament, as a Member of the Government, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Minister who considers matters that fall within the mandate of the Prime Minister's Office.

The President of the Republic released upon request Mari Kiviniemi, Master of Social Sciences, Member of Parliament, from the duty concerned.

Division of duties in the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs

The Government confirmed the division of duties among ministers on 3 March:

In the Prime Minister's Office, minister Lehtomäki handles matters covered by the Government Secretariat for EU Affairs and the Secretariat for the Finnish EU Presidency, excluding matters related to the European Council, amendments to the Treaties establishing the European Union and appointments related to the European Union that come within the mandate of the Prime Minister's Office.

Prime Minister Vanhanen handles all other matters covered by the Prime Minister's Office.

In the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Lehtomäki handles matters related to trade policy, development cooperation and cooperation in the neighbouring regions.

Minister Enestam handles matters covered by the Secretariat for Nordic Cooperation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Tuomioja handles all other matters covered by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Minister Lehtomäki is also a member of the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy and the Cabinet Committee on European Union Affairs.
