NATO Representative in Afghanistan to visit Finland

Mark Sedwill, NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan, will make a visit to Helsinki on Tuesday, 25 January.

Sedwill is based in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. He acts as the liaison officer between NATO, the Government of Afghanistan, civil society and the international community and is also responsible for the implementation of the goals NATO has set for its civilian operations in Afghanistan.

Sedwill will have talks with Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb pertaining to topical issues concerning Afghanistan and the transfer of responsibility for security from the international forces to Afghan forces. During his visit to Finland, Sedwill will also meet with Minister of Defence Jyri Häkämies and the Nordic and Baltic special representatives for Afghanistan.
