Geopolitics and global themes high on World Economic Forum’s agenda

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on 22–26 May. The meeting was originally scheduled to take place in February but, due to the difficult COVID-19 situation, it was postponed until May.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) of 2022 will be held at an exceptional juncture. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has altered the European security environment. Therefore, the changed geopolitical situation is high on the agenda of the WEF’s programme.

Other items on the forum’s agenda include COVID-19 and global health questions as well as such far-reaching global themes as climate change, technology and innovations and issues related to the fairness of the economic system.

Minister Haavisto will take part in a panel discussion to discuss the transformed geopolitical situation caused by the war in Ukraine. During the meeting, Haavisto will also have bilateral meetings with representatives of different countries and with representatives of the private sector and civil society.
