Changes in Visa and Residence Permit Applications to Finland

Starting 1st of August Embassy of Finland in Washington D.C. will no longer take in or handle visa or residence permit applications.

The Consulate General of Finland in New York handles other than study- or work-based residence permit applications. Our Consulate General in Los Angeles provides visa services to a certain extent.

We remind you however that Finland has outsourced the submission of Schengen visa applications and the collection of biometric data required for study- or work-based residence permit applications to VFS Global. Schengen visas and residence permits to Finland must be applied for in person through the visa application center. Please note that there is no expedited process available, and status inquiries by telephone or email do not expedite the application process.

An appointment is mandatory and can be made on VFS Global's website.
