Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja to the UN Millennium Summit and to California

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will participate at the UN Millennium Summit as a member of the delegation of the President of Finland, Tarja Halonen, on 6-8 September. Mr Tuomioja will leave for New York on 5 September. During the summit, Foreign Minister Tuomioja will accompany the President in her bilateral meetings. Mr Tuomioja will also have meetings with foreign ministers.

Minister Tuomioja will accompany the President in one of the round-table discussions on the role of the UN in the 21st century.

Mr Tuomioja will visit Finnish information technology companies in the Silicon Valley, California, on 9-11 September. He will also meet representatives of the research and finance community.

Minister Tuomioja will return to New York on Monday, 11 September. He will deliver Finland´s address at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

EU meetings will also be organised during the General Assembly week. The EU foreign ministers will have a joint breakfast and separate meetings with their US and Russian counterparts, Madeleine Albright and Igor Ivanov.

Foreign Minister Tuomioja will return to Finland on Thursday, 14 September.
