Executive Director of UNOPS to visit Finland

Executive Director of UNOPS Grete Faremo will visit Finland from 26 to 27 February. The United Nations Office for Project Services, UNOPS, which offers project management, infrastructure and procurement services, is interested in strengthening its cooperation with Finland.

UNOPS headquarters is located in Copenhagen. The organisation supports other UN specialised agencies with their development, humanitarian and peace operations. Additionally, UNOPS constructs infrastructure solutions that contribute to development, including schools, hospitals and roads in fragile and conflict-prone countries. It offers its procurement expertise to developing countries and supports them in the administration of projects.
While in Finland, Executive Director Faremo will meet with Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Anne-Mari Virolainen and Under-Secretary of State Elina Kalkku. She will hold the keynote speech at a lunch meeting hosted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, which will be held on the theme of Nordic cooperation in UN procurement. Faremo will also visit the UN Technology Innovation Lab (UNTIL Finland) in Espoo.

UNOPS is keen to strengthen its partnership with Finland. Last year, a cooperation project with the organisation was launched related to Finland's Public Sector Investment Facility (PIF). Through this cooperation, UNOPS supports the procurement activities of public authorities in developing countries who are engaged in the development of PIF projects. Finland has also supported the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF), which is managed by UNOPS.  EIF supports the Least Developed Countries' (LCDs) participation in international trade.
