Limited reception of residence permit applications to resume in Finnish missions abroad
Due to the coronavirus epidemic, Finland suspended the reception of ordinary visa and residence permit applications starting on 19 March 2020. The reception of ordinary visa applications continues to be suspended but activities relating to residence permit applications were gradually resumed in the missions on 16 June 2020.
Finland suspends the reception and processing of ordinary visa and residence permit applications in the missions
Owing to the coronavirus outbreak, Finland, in line with the rest of the Schengen countries, has suspended the reception of normal visa applications in Finland’s missions with immediate effect from 19 March until further notice.
Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari to visit Tanzania and Mozambique
Minister Ville Skinnari will visit Tanzania on 23–25 February and Mozambique on 26–28 February. During the visit, the Minister will learn about Finland's development cooperation in the two countries and have meetings with their political leadership. The visit will also promote commercial cooperation between Finland and these countries.
Foreign Minister Haavisto to visit Tanzania
Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will visit Tanzania on 7–8 November. He will meet President John P. Magufuli and Minister for Foreign Affairs Palamagamba Kabudi and attend the African-Nordic foreign ministers’ meeting in Dar es Salaam. The meeting is expected to gather representatives from the Nordic countries and about fifteen African countries.
Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Finland
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tanzania Augustine Mahiga will visit Finland on Monday 25 February and have a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini. The aim of the visit is to promote the relations between the two countries and to discuss topical bilateral and international questions.
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Mykkänen to visit Tanzania and Kenya
Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen will visit Tanzania and Kenya on 14–19 November 2016. The two countries are Finland’s long-term partners in development cooperation but now they are hoping for more investments and trade with Finland. The Minister will be accompanied by a delegation of 24 Finnish companies and organisations.
Finland to host rising talent from developing markets
This week Finland will play host to more than 50 startupers from developing markets. The set goal is to establish contacts between players in developing countries and Finland, and give competent people from developing countries a chance to network and find international financing.
Secretary of State Stenlund will participate in the Africa-Nordic Meeting of Foreign Ministers in South Africa
Secretary of State Peter Stenlund will deputise Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja in the Africa-Nordic Meeting of Foreign Ministers in South Africa from 9 to 10 April 2015. During the two days, the ministers will discuss topical issues related to Africa and the Nordic countries. The themes of the meeting include African integration and inclusive economic growth. There will be an opportunity for more informal discussion on current international issues over dinner.
Finland's use of development cooperation appropriations increased in 2014
Finland used a total of EUR 1.23 billion to development cooperation in 2014. This represented 0.6 per cent of Finland's gross national income (GNI). The figure also covers expenses arising from the reception of refugees, Finland's share of the EU budget, and other expenditure in different administrative areas collated in statistics under development cooperation.
